Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat is an internationally renowned institution. It is born out of Baroda College which is one of the oldest centres of education. Moreover, MSU Baroda Gujarat is the only state university with a residential and unitary character, which uses English as the only language of instruction. More than 1,200 high-qualified faculty members and 1,500 administrative staff facilitate the learning of more than 35,000 students. It has 275 acres of land, upon which, 14 faculties, 90 departments, three constituent colleges and also many specialized centres reside. Significantly, the college has exposure to many co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Along with its people, the Government of Baroda wanted a separate University of their own. The affiliation with other institutions of higher education to a University located far away was not conductive. Moreover, the was no development of new courses. However, the region was in need of University which would provide them with quality and modern education. Hence this college came into existence. From its inception, it is a residential university with complete freedom in all academic matters. Also, this university welcomes any new branches which have needs in the region, as well as, for the country.
Furthermore, the college has the vision to promote and enhance teaching with high standard. It also provides an environment which helps nurture critical reflections, innovation, and the exchange of ideas among students. Moreover, it gives access to education by all sections of the society. The MSU Baroda Gujarat Admissions differ depending on the course type. Below are a few examples of the admission criteria.
Master of Arts – Political Science
Eligibility includes the candidate who has passed BA with Political Science as a major from any recognizable university. Even the requirement of 50% aggregate in the major subjects. Another option is that the candidate must be BA pass student with subjects other than Political Science from any recognizable universities. Even over here the student must have 50% aggregate.
Master of Arts – Psychology
For this course, the candidate must have studied at least six papers of Psychology during the undergraduate course. Another option is that the student should have covered six papers through subsidiary/ interdisciplinary/ allied choice in 3 years. Sometimes due to the limitation of seats, admission can also depend on merit and personal interview.
MSU Baroda Gujarat Facilities
The name of the library is Shrimati Hansa Mehta Library and was established on May 1, 1950. Interestingly, a collection of 25,000 books were handed over to the library by state libraries. The total area of the library is 80,025 sq.ft. There are entrances from both the sides of the building. Further, it has a large reading room of 10,600 sq.ft. which can accommodate about 1,100 readers. Moreover, the books are stacked on two floors; these rooms can accommodate 500 plus readers.
The location of this health centre is at the prime location of the campus. It is quite easily accessible from the hostel, residential colonies of the institute and faculty units. It provides medical care of reasonable quality to its employees and their dependents. Also, for the students, it provides medical care with minimum or no cost.
